Arrange patterned papers to make this simple artwork
• Cut 12 1cm x 21cm strips of double-sided patterned paper. Lay three strips side by side with a 1cm gap between them. Weave three more strips through these and arrange so the grid that is formed sits in the centre. Hold in place with a little glue.
• Take the adjacent strips at each corner of the weave and glue them together at the tips, twisting the strips slightly to form a petal shape. Hold the tips with pegs while the glue dries. Make a second shape in the same way from the remaining six strips.
• Place one flower on top of the other so the petals sit between one another. Take the loose strips and join the two shapes together by glueing the ends to the inside of the closest petal and trimming to a point. Punch a small hole in the top of one petal to add a hanging string.
• Draw a 3cm grid over the whole of a sheet of A4 card. Choose five patterned papers in similar colours and cut squares and rectangles with sides that measure multiples of 3cm.
• Arrange the shapes on the card, lining up the edges to the drawn lines. Glue in place.
• Top the patchwork background with a silhouette shape and wording cut from a contrasting sheet of card and fix in place with foam pads before framing.
