Hang this over your bed to catch bad dreams

Paper dreamcatcher

YOU WILL NEED:

PaperCrafter Studio Selection Paper Book, Online template from papercraftermagazine.co.uk, Medium weight white card, Coloured embroidery thread or crochet cotton, Foam pads

According to Native American folklore, the night air is filled with both good and bad dreams. Designed to be hung over or near a bed, a dreamcatcher catches the dreams as they flow by. Good dreams pass through the catcher, slipping through the outer holes and sliding down the feathers. Bad dreams get tangled in the catcher to perish with the first light of the new day. This magical process inspired designer Corinne Bradd to create her very own design. We think it would be great for a kid’s bedroom.

Make a template for the dreamcatcher by drawing a circular frame 20cm in diameter and 1cm thick onto white card. Draw lines from edge to edge to make a triangle in the centre. Draw a smaller triangle upside down inside the first. Use a craft knife to cut inside these lines to leave struts approximately 6mm wide.

Trace around this template onto three pieces of card. Glue patterned paper to the back of the card before cutting out the sections with a craft knife. Lay the cut-outs on top of each other, turn so the struts from an interlocking pattern and fix with foam pads for a 3D effect.

Use our online feather templates to trace and cut six large and six small shapes from double-sided patterned paper. Curl the paper feathers gently around a cylinder to shape. Wrap double-sided tape around the quill of each feather. Cut a 30cm length of thread, wrap one end around the sticky quill and add a dab of PVA for security.

Tie the other end of the thread around the ring of the top dreamcatcher, knot several times, glue and trim the end. Vary the length of the thread to give a balanced arrangement of feathers.
