What Is Colour Therapy?

Colour therapy (also known as art therapy) is essentially colouring in for adults. Why should children have all the fun? The trend started in Europe, when people realised the de-stressing qualities of it. Colour therapy has fantastic therapeutic benefits. The intricacy requires your mind to fully focus on the task, meaning it’s a great way to practise mindfulness.

What Is Colour Therapy?

Mindfulness

Mindfulness is a relaxation technique where you clear your mind from worries and focus on the present moment. This can sometimes be difficult to achieve but an activity such as colouring helps you to calm your thoughts. It takes just enough concentration to distract your brain from the trials of everyday life, but not so much that it strains it. In today’s busy world, it’s important to take some ‘me time’ every now and then and focus on your wellbeing and happiness.

We’ve been colouring during our lunch breaks here at PaperCrafter HQ

Creativity

Adult colouring in patterns are more intricate than the simple tractors and houses found in children’s books. Demand for these designs means that book shops have been flooded with a range of new titles, filled with beautiful patterns to colour in. It’s a great chance to be creative and can be done anywhere, whether you’ve got ten minutes during your lunch break or you need something to do on your commute.

Free for you

Issue 88 of PaperCrafter comes with a fabulous free colour therapy book, featuring 30 designs for you to enjoy. These include Christmas motifs as well as everyday patterns. When completed, your coloured creations can be cut out and put on the wall as works of art. Or you can cut out motifs and use them in your card making and craft projects. When it comes to art therapy, there’s only one rule – relax!
