1. COCKTAIL UMBRELLAS
In our latest issue, we show you just how simple it is to whip up mini paper parasols, and let's be honest, no summer cocktail is complete without one. Using up scraps found in your crafty stash, designer Corinne Bradd reveals the trick in our regular feature 'Stash Busters!'. Get a copy of issue 84 now (on sale 3rd July - 30th July 2015).
2. FORTUNE COOKIES
To welcome guests into your home, why not spread the love with DIY fortune cookies? All you need is an array of pretty papers and some words of wisdom! It can also double as a party favour to say thank to all those who attended.
3. CHARMING JARS
A simple theme that has proved very popular this year is the rustic 'barn and farm' look. It's so easy to put together yourself, using basic items you can find around the home. Old jars filled with hay (or brown coloured paper) and motifs attached to skewers or straws will add trendy charm to a table display.
4. LUXE LANTERNS
To create ambiance, the right kind of lighting is essential once the sun has set. Using plain lanterns and a selection of pretty patterned tissue paper, these lanterns are a dream to make. Pop a battery-operated light inside of each one and hang them around the garden to set the mood.
5. DIY MENUS
When you've gone to the trouble of preparing a delicious meal, why not go all out and make a mini menu too? It will remind guests of how much effort you have put into the day and it is also a great (and cheap!) way of decorating the dinner table. With a fine felt pen and your best handwriting, a menu is an elegant addition to any summer party.
