Meet Our New Designer Karin Åkesdotter
We have a new designer joining the PaperCrafter family and she is so talented that a special blog was in order. Without further ado, we’re pleased to introduce Karin Åkesdotter! Over to...
We work with great illustrators at PaperCrafter. We’ve been really lucky to feature designs from the fabulous Jessica Hogarth in both issue 74 (our current issue) and 75, our upcoming edition.
We wanted to work with Jessica as we felt her contemporary use of colour, fab composition and charming line would add an extra dimension to your makes - we weren’t wrong!
Here’s how our crafters made the most of her fab illustrations in issue 74!
Jessica Hogarth is a freelance illustrator based in picturesque North Yorkshire. She works from a studio, which is just a few minutes walk from Whitby’s bustling Church Street and harbour – how delightful!
We initially saw Jessica’s work on her website and we’re blown over by her original style.
Other people love her too and the illustrator is going from strength to strength! She runs her own wholesale business, selling greetings card, notebooks and textiles to outlets around the UK, as well as producing work on a freelance basis for companies internationally. This year she launched a Yorkshire inspired print and wallpaper with leading British brand Graham & Brown.
Jessica has also launched an entire product range for the RNLI. She was thrilled to collaborate with such a high profile charity, and the product range showcases a variety of detailed fish illustrations alongside simple repeat patterns inspired by waves. The designer’s coastal upbringing has had a notable influence on her artwork. Her Life by the Sea collection of designs has proved popular for the past two years, and is a collection that is personal to Jessica.
Her love of hand drawn linear illustrations and use of quirky colour schemes is evident across her designs, which can be seen across a variety of products, from greeting cards to clothing. Jessica also has a love of 50’s and Scandinavian design, which has had a subtle effect on the style of her design work.
